Season 27 (2010-2011)[]

Season Changes[]

  • New opening sequence: multicolored glass panels stack on top of one another forming the Jeopardy! logo. After the Jeopardy! logo formed, blue glass panels move to right and left. Then, the show's logo zooms forward, revealing the 2009-2013 set.
  • This is the last season where Alex stands in front of the game board when the Final Jeopardy! category and clue is revealed on its monitors before and after the last commercial break. The following season, Alex began sitting on his chair at his podium, when the Final Jeopardy! category and clue is revealed on the monitor before and after the last commercial break.
  • This season marked the debut of the Teachers Tournament.
  • Lisa Finneran and Gary Johnson both left the show after this season.
  • The color scheme in photography clues and Daily Double clues changed to light blue with tinted horizontal streaked lines.

September 2010[]

  • September 13, 2010: Season 27 kicks off, and Roger Craig makes his first Jeopardy! appearance on the season premiere.
  • September 14, 2010: Roger Craig sets a new one-day record of $77,000.
  • September 22-29, 2010: Kara Spak becomes a five-time champion and accumulates $83,401.

October 2010[]

  • October 15, 2010: Show #6000 is aired on this date, which is the 5,935th episode.

November 2010[]

  • November 8-19, 2010: The College Championship is held.

December 2010[]

  • December 24, 2010: Tom Nissley finishes with a 8-day total of $235,405.

January 2011[]

  • January 14, 2011: The real 6,000th episode of Jeopardy! aired on this date, which is Show #6065.

February 2011[]

  • February 14-16, 2011: The IBM Challenge was held in upstate New York, and it's a three-day match between the Watson supercomputer, Ken Jennings, and Brad Rutter. Watson won the match to donate $1,000,000 to World Vision and World Community Grid.

March 2011[]

  • February 17-March 2, 2011: The Teen Tournament is held.
  • March 16, 2011: This was just the fourth episode where only one contestant (Tom Kunzen) played Final Jeopardy!.
  • March 22, 2011: Tom Kunzen finishes with a 5-day total of $133,402.

April 2011[]

  • April 11, 2011: Christopher Short finishes with a 6-day total of $94,752.
  • April 27, 2011: Brian Meacham finishes with a 4-day total of $90,500.

May 2011[]

  • May 2-13, 2011: The Teachers Tournament was held for the first time.
    • During the quarterfinals week of the opening introduction of the Teachers Tournament, Johnny introduced the teacher contestants by announcing a brief description followed by their location and name, which would remain in use until Season 30.
    • The Teachers Tournament was the last Jeopardy! event to make its debut in the Alex Trebek era.
    • The opening title sequence looks similar to Kids Week, which would remain in use until Season 29. Charles Temple became the first champion of the Teachers Tournament.

June 2011[]

  • June 27, 2011: Jay Rhee finishes with a 5-day total of $107,203.

July 2011[]

  • July 4-8, 2011: Kids Week was held.
  • July 18, 2011: Aleve begins sponsoring the consolation prizes.
  • July 21, 2011: Mark Runsvold finishes with a 4-day total of $153,800. He became the second participant to achieve more than $100K in just two games.
  • July 29, 2011: Season 27 ends.

Post-season[]

  • August 1-September 16, 2011: Summer reruns air.
